Game of Week #3: South Florida 37 -- Kansas 34

The four letter network hit another jackpot with this game of the week played to a national audience on Friday night. The USF Bulls have come a long way in barely 10 years of existence. Coach Jim Leavitt has spurned multiple offers from big-time programs. Instead, he seems intent on molding South Florida into one. Despite the in-state competition, there's so much talent in this state, I think he'll succeed. And after this big non-conference win, the Bulls look poised to win the Big East and claim a BCS spot.

The game played in Tampa's Raymond James Stadium went back and forth all night. The Jayhawks were up by 10 at half and yet needed 2 4th quarter TD's to tie it up by crunch time. Kansas star junior QB Todd Reesing played hero-like in throwing for 373 yards and 3 TD's, but he also played goat-like with a last minute INT giving the Bulls a chance at a game-winning FG at the buzzer.

Good move by South Florida in going with true freshman kicked Maikon Bonani who nailed the 41 yard winner. I watched last year's kicker miss so many similar kicks in a "what might have been" season.

As usual, Lakeland, FL's junior QB Matt Grothe played spectacular for the Bulls. I don't think Grothe has pro potential. But he's one of those college players that make football so special. Indeed, he's a bull!

This blogger declares that the key to Kansas' loss was the lack of use of the weapon that is WR Dezmon BRISCOE, who only accounted for 36 yards on 3 catches.
